First Hindi Film

Raja Harischandra was the first Hindi movie.This is a silent movie released into theaters on May 3,1913.This is the first full length Indian film.The film is based on the legend King Harishchandra recounted in the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
In the film,the king first sacrifices his kingdom,followed by his wife and eventually his children to honour his promise to Sage Viswamitra.
